Yeongdo Japanese seafood course dining
A Jeju damselfish specialist in Yeongseon-dong. Rather than counting on generous parking, judge the Yeongdo alley conditions on the day.
Damselfish sashimi is KRW 30,000 and damselfish mulhoe runs KRW 12,000 to KRW 18,000. Jeju-style hairtail stew comes up often at around KRW 10,000.
The damselfish mulhoe is closer to a mixed sashimi salad than the soupy version served elsewhere. Cucumber, perilla leaf and a house sauce are folded through and it is wrapped in lettuce and perilla, so the doenjang-leaning Jeju nuttiness and the texture of the fish both come forward.
It pairs well with Huinnyeoul Culture Village and a walk along the Yeongdo coast, and the limited daily quantity can sell out later in the day. Takeaway is common, but eating in with the side dishes is more satisfying, so an early arrival helps for a lunch with parents.
