Wood-fired pizza with a rooftop view over Busan Harbour

About

An Italian restaurant on the Chojang-dong hillside above Pusan National University Hospital. Park on the road and take the stairs beside the signboard down to the entrance. The terrace and rooftop look straight over Busan Harbour, Yeongdo and the downtown skyline, so it fills up around sunset. Gamcheon Culture Village is about 15 minutes away by car, but the slope is steep enough that walking up is hard work.

The signature is Neapolitan pizza from the wood-fired oven. The sun-dried tomato margherita (KRW 16,000) has a light, chewy aged dough, and the tartness of the dried tomato with fresh rocket cuts the richness. An unexpected favourite is the fresh-baked bread (KRW 4,500), served straight from the oven with honey: crisp outside, soft inside, and most people order a second one.

Pasta runs KRW 13,000-14,000. The shrimp aglio e olio is savoury, the vongole comes loaded with clams, and the seafood tomato pasta has mussels, surf clams and prawns with fresh tomato for a sharp finish. The cream risotto (KRW 14,000) is the dish people order twice. Sides are chicken wings at KRW 11,000 and fries at KRW 7,000, and steaks run KRW 30,500-56,500. The owner cooks everything himself.

The dining room seats only three or four tables but the windows are wide, so every seat has a view. There are more seats on the terrace and rooftop, which is enclosed in tents in cold weather - the tents block the view, so come on a clear day for a normal table if the panorama is the point. Groups are welcome. Book by phone on 010-8800-4126 or through Naver. Open Tue-Sun 11:30-21:30 with a 15:30-17:00 break, last orders at 14:30 and 20:30, closed every Monday. There is a dedicated car park on the road above, so driving is the easier option.
