Hyeonmi Seafood Heaven

현미해물천국

Yeongdo steamed or grilled seafood known for braised monkfish small

About

A long-standing local seafood kitchen in a Namhang-dong alley on Yeongdo. Parking is close to impossible, so public parking and a walk is the better approach. It leans towards takeaway over delivery, and evenings fill quickly with locals, so a group should book.

The mainstays are braised monkfish at KRW 40,000 for the small, small squid at KRW 40,000, monkfish suyuk, and monkfish soup. The braise is the Busan build with plenty of bean sprouts, and the sauce brings savour, sweetness and the scent of Korean mint alongside the heat.

The monkfish is springy and soft at once, and portions are generous enough to share between two or more. Ramen noodles at the end soak up the sauce, so plan for them when ordering the braise.

It suits a search on Yeongdo for a Namhang-dong local braise instead of a tourist kitchen. Keep takeaway and booking in mind, and choose it when Korean mint in the sauce and a ramen finish are what you want.
