슌사이 쿠보
Buk-gu Japanese rice bowls known for hitsumabushi
A hitsumabushi specialist on the ground floor of the Geumsaem Building in Buk-gu. Seats are booked through Naver Reservation or Catch Table; the phone number is for questions, not booking. Walk-ins should expect to wait on site.
Parking is clearest at Hwamyeong Public Parking, five to ten minutes on foot, with one hour covered on spending over KRW 50,000. Setting the navigation to Hwamyeong Public Parking is less confusing than hunting for a lot under the building.
The signature is hitsumabushi, KRW 39,000 for a whole eel and KRW 27,500 for half. The half portion still covers eating it plain, with egg as unatama, and finally as ochazuke, though a whole eel gives the fuller sense of the fish.
The eel is nutty with no muddy edge, and a little wasabi lifts it. Salad, clear soup, tempura of kabocha, eggplant and burdock, chawanmushi, and matcha pudding fill out the set. Tables are spaced generously and there is a private room, which works for meals with parents, family gatherings, and work dinners.
